Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is the most important oilseed-cum-food legume crop in the world. Sustainable groundnut production promotes food security and reduces malnutrition in a swelling population.

Groundnut landraces are a potential source for sustainable groundnut breeding. groundnuts) and the European Union (a major producer of rapeseed) are the most important producers of other oilseeds, at 35 Mt and 29 Mt inbut both are expected to have only very little production expansion at % p.a.

in China and constant production in the European Union. Groundnuts are rich in protein and can be eaten raw, cooked or roasted. Some types are cultivated under drier conditions, while others are irrigated. Groundnuts are more drought-resistant than maize and can be grown for home consumption or as a cash crop.

They work well as a rotational crop and should be planted on the same soil once every four years. The groundnut crop Groundnut is the sixth most important oilseed crop in the world.

It contains % oil and % protein, and is a rich source of dietary fiber, minerals, and vitamins. Groundnut is grown on million ha worldwide with a total production of million metric t and an average productivity of metric t/ha (FAO, ).

The book explores these issues using data collected from about 2, oilseed growers: soybean farmers, rapeseed-mustard growers, groundnut farmers, sesamum farmers and sunflower growers from selected Indian states. It would be of immense use for scholars and policy makers alike who are working in this field.

Groundnut is therefore an oilseed crop on a global scale. Dhaward, India, and later moved to ICRISAT and served in Crop Improvement and Management Program. classified as oilseeds but often used for other purposes, such as sesame seed and poppy seed. All oilseeds are provided for in chapter 12 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HI'S). Peanuts and vegetable oil (extracted from oilseeds) are covered in separate summary reports.

It ranks first both in acreage and production among the oils eed crops. It is reported that of the total oilseed cropped area, groundnut area accounted to be 70 per cent in s but over years the area under groundnut has declined to 33 per cent as onstill groundnut is a major oilseed crop.

Groundnut: Groundnut is the most important oilseed of India and accounts for a little less than half of the major oilseeds produced in the country. Groundnut kernels are rich in proteins and vitamins and have high calorific value. It contains per cent oil which is mainly used as edible oil in its pure form or hydrogenated vanaspati form.

An integrated approach to the entire situation indicated that the experience gained by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in organizing milk producers, and using food aid to prime the pump as well as generate funds for further investments in the programme, could very well be utilized to restructure the oilseed/oil industry as well.

Imports show a growing market, with an average annual increase of 2% in volume and % in value from to Groundnuts are consumed as snacks, processed as food ingredients and crushed for oil. This study focuses on groundnuts for the European food manufacturing and oil crushing industries.

The series comprises seven volumes: Cereals and Millets; Oilseeds; Pulses, Sugar and Tuber Crops; Fruits and Nuts; Vegetables; Technical Crops; and Forest Trees. Feb 25,  · TARGET TRAITS FOR GROUNDNUT IMPROVEMENT. The aim of groundnut breeding programs across the world is to develop new varieties that meet the requirements of grower, processor, and consumer. Thus the targeted traits for improvement in groundnut depend on the level of productivity achieved and consumers’ and industry requirements in a wiztechinplanttraining.com by: Groundnut rosette disease symptoms types distribution and management of the disease in Uganda of adopted from the Groundnut Improvement Programme at unsupportive oilseed policies have.

Heavy metals cause toxicity in oilseed crops via multiple mechanisms, as symptoms are highly crop, metal, and dose specific. Oilseed crops show potential to ameliorate metal-induced toxicity by adjusting their hemostasis to the optimum level.
